Doxycycline works by killing the parasite that enters the blood when mosquitoes bite the skin, thereby it prevents infection with malaria.
Doxycycline hyclate, sucrose, maize starch, crospovidone, polymethacrylate and talc.
Capsule shell: gelatin, E171, E132 and E172, shellac, propylene glycol, ammonium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and E171.
How to take
One 100mg capsule should be taken daily for one to two days prior to travel, and continued until 4 weeks after returning. It should be taken whole, with food or a glass of milk, at the same time every day while standing or sitting upright, and patients should not lie down for 30 minutes after taking.
Allergic type reactions can occur in which case the patient should contact a GP. Other effects include, skin reactions, sensitivity to sunlight, headaches and vision loss.
