ellaOne is an emergency hormonal contraceptive used to help prevent pregnancy once unprotected sexual intercourse has occurred. It contains ulipristal acetate which alters the activity of the hormone progesterone to prevent ovulation from occurring.
Ulipristal acetate, lactose, povidone K30, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate.
How to take
One tablet should be taken immediately. It is effective for up to 120 hours after sexual intercourse, and can be taken at any point in a female’s menstrual cycle. It should not be used as a regular method of contraception and will not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.
Nausea and vomiting, stomach pains, painful periods, breast tenderness and headaches are some of the side effects that may occur. A pregnancy test should be taken if a periods is missed in addition to any side effects, as these symptoms are similar to signs of pregnancy.
