This combined hormonal contraceptive pill contains ethinylestradiol and desogestrel. Gedarel acts by stopping an egg being released from the ovaries, making it more difficult for sperm to enter the womb and altering the womb lining to prevent implantation of a fertilised egg.
Ethinylestradiol, desogestrel, potato starch, stearic acid, all-rac-alpha-tocopherol, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, silica colloidal anhydrous,, povidone K 30, quinoline yellow, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, propylene glycol.
How to take
Each blister strip contains 21 tablets, one of which should be taken daily, at around the same time, for 21 days. This should then be followed by a 7 day pill-free period before beginning the next blister strip.
Nervousness, acne and weight gain are all possible side effects. If patients experience signs of blood clots or cancer they must immediately contact their GP.
