Levonelle contains levonorgestrel, a synthetic hormone that can prevent a pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse or when contraception methods have failed. It is thought to work by stopping the ovaries producing an egg and preventing sperm from fertilising any egg that has already been released.
Levonorgestrel, potato starch, maize starch, colloidal silica anhydrous, magnesium stearate, talc and lactose monohydrate.
How to take
One tablet should be taken immediately. Levonelle is effective for 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse and can be taken at any point in a female’s menstrual cycle. This drug is not a regular method of contraception and will not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.
Nausea, irregular bleeding, lower abdominal pain, tiredness and headaches are some possible side effects. If a missed period occurs with any of these symptoms, a pregnancy test should be taken.
