Microgynon tablets contain levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol. It is used as hormonal contraception to prevent pregnancy by preventing the ovaries from producing an egg, reducing the chance of sperm passing into the womb by thickening the cervical mucus and reduce the chance of implantation.
Levonorgestrel, ethinylestradiol, lactose, maize starch, povidone, magnesium stearate, sucrose, macrogol 6000, calcium carbonate, talc, montan glycol wax, titanium dioxide, glycerin and ferric oxide pigment yellow.
How to take
A blister strip contains 21 tablets and one should be taken daily, at around the same time, then after 7 days taking no pills, the next pack can be started.
Microgynon is associated with an increased risk of blood clots and cancer; patients should seek medical attention if any sign of this appear. Other side effects can include stomach ache, depression and headaches.
