Norgeston contains the progestogen, levonorgestrel, which is used as hormonal contraception. It works by making the mucus of the cervix thicker, which prevents entry of sperm into the womb, altering the womb lining to prevent an egg growing in it, and in some women it can stop ovulation occurring.
Levonorgestrel, lactose, maize starch, povidone, polyethylene glycol 6000, calcium carbonate, talc, magnesium stearate, sucrose, montan glycol wax.
How to take
Norgeston comes as blister strips of 35 pills, one of which should be taken every day at the same time, before beginning the next strip.
There is an increased risk of blood clots and cancers with this medicine, so patients should be aware of the signs of these and when to see their GP. Allergic reactions, nausea and headaches are some of the possible side effects reported.
