Xenical contains the drug orlistat, which attaches to enzymes within the digestive system to prevent fat being absorbed into the body. The fat is instead eliminated and so the drug aids in treating obesity.
Capsule contents- orlistat, microcrystalline cellulose (E460), sodium starch glycolate (type A), povidone (E1201), sodium laurilsulfate and talc.
Capsule shell- gelatine, indigo carmine (E132), titanium dioxide (E171) and edible printing ink.
How to take
Generally one capsule should be taken three times a day with food, but patients should always follow the directions of the GP. Patients should also follow a low-calorie diet.
Flatulence, abdominal pains, oily discharge and stools, increased stools and headaches can occur in some patients.
